Though more than 40 years ago at this writing, I have a clear memory of this evening as one of the first concerts of my music to come off fairly successfully. It was a chinook in Calgary in February so people were into going out and the “Dandelion Gallery” on 9 Ave. SE was one of the hippest new hangouts. I had begun playing with bassist Billy McCarroll from Lethbridge, responsible (and cursed forever thusly) for giving me my first ever “jazz” gigs. No such restrictions applied to the program here, a live recording of “archive” quality. I wrote scores we both could understand at the performance. We went out dancing later and ate Chinese food.
