FROM MAY TO JEEN

Dedicated to my granddaughter Maybellene,

This is my children's album, although I have to say right from the start I have not so much interest in "children's music," at least not in playing it.  I believe children should be exposed to music in all its pure glory, there is no need to water it down to make it more palatable as if it was a spicy sauce.  Sure, I understand the embarassment that can result when children decide to repeat swearing they have heard on records, obviously this is not the only source for "dirty words." And while swearing is hardly the only thing parents have to worry about, I do find myself switching up certain lyrics if children are in the audience.  But I would never change my guitar style just because I am afraid some little fart might get frightened by dissonance.  As Charles Mingus said, "Let my children hear music!"

The songs on from May to Jeen are mostly either songs I know Maybellene likes as well as ones I am pretty sure she will like.  She has an impressive range of interests, from Icka Picka Pow! to Greek mythology to K-Pop Demon Hunters.

The selection will also allow her the opportunity to enjoy--I hope--some of the brightest moments from our "family band" rave-ups with The 13 Society and the International Workers of the World Band, from back in the day when her mother and aunt didn't have children yet and thus had time for these shenanigans.
