“You Are in Bear Country” was released on cassette during the final years of Ronald Reagan’s first term. I had gotten the interest of the “Flyilng Fish” label in hearing a demo, that is the source of most of the song material in the recording, done myself with multi-tracking on cassette porta-studio. The label responded with horror and the songs ended up being released in tandem with the results of an evening of what hosts Chris and Steve DeChiara called “CB terror”: they had a pretty powerful CB radio set up in their basement so we set to work seeing what sorts of reactions we could get to the basic premise that “Reagan is a Communist” with a few tangents such as the claim Jesse Helms was ready to legalize marijuana and prostitution in order to pay off the national debt,
